Architecture that ages well. I design and build cloud platforms, distributed systems and AI agent systems, from the first diagram to production.
About
I’ve been building software for close to twenty years, and the part I still enjoy most is the moment a messy problem finally becomes simple. I like to sit with a problem until I really understand it, sketch it out, and then build the plainest thing that will hold up.
I also spent my first six years in the industry teaching calculus and mathematics at university. Explaining hard ideas simply, at a whiteboard or in a code review, is still a big part of how I work.
I care a lot about clean code. Not for its own sake, but because the next person to read it is usually a teammate, and often it’s me six months later. Good names, small pieces that do one thing, and tests that explain what the code is for.
Some of the work I’m proudest of is about people: helping a team find its rhythm, reviewing code with care, and making it safe to ask questions and own decisions. I’d rather leave a team stronger than leave behind a clever system only I understand.
These days I spend a lot of time on agentic coding, working out where AI genuinely helps a team ship better software and where it just adds noise.
Away from the keyboard you’ll usually find me scuba diving.
Experience
2022 — present
Senior Staff Software Engineer · Zensurance
Designing and building high-concurrency microservices, rule engines, a document generation system and dynamic pricing pipelines, while leading the technology roadmap across several teams and mentoring senior and lead engineers.
2021 — 2022
Full Stack Developer III / Manager I · FreshWorks Studio (EY Studio)
Built distributed platforms for government and enterprise clients, and led a component squad on Oliu, a blockchain-based digital identity platform, writing much of its code alongside the team.
2020 — 2021
Founding Architect · Zigo Hoteles
Designed and built Zigo Travels from the ground up: a 0-to-1 B2B travel platform whose architecture had to connect banks, billing systems, channel managers and hotel systems across countries, in every combination.
2018 — 2019
Senior Software Engineer · Jobsity
Built pixel-perfect, mobile-first interfaces for a New York real estate platform, backed by high-concurrency REST and GraphQL integrations, in a self-managed team of senior engineers at the top of their craft, where the bar for code was very high.
2015 — 2018
Tech Lead / Senior Software Engineer · Bayteq
Built mobile and web products from the ground up for banking, education, e-commerce, health and travel clients, often several at once, leading and coding alongside one of the best teams I’ve worked with.
2008 — 2014
Software Engineer · Calisoft
Built quality-assurance tooling, worked on the first nationwide software development quality standard and consulted on CMMI.
2008 — 2014
Professor of Calculus & Mathematics · University of Information Sciences, Havana
Taught calculus and mathematics at university, alongside my engineering work.
